Teacher messaging architecture: CMS vs. Mass Communication
Edlio provides four distinct surfaces for teacher communication across two product platforms:
Personal Pages (CMS): Teacher profile, biography, syllabus, supply lists, and classroom post announcements.
Classes (CMS): Specific course homework assignments, due dates, class files, and syllabus outlines.
Subscriptions (CMS — Passive Daily Digest): Automated notification system. Teachers do not compose or dispatch subscription emails; the server generates a single consolidated daily digest at 5:30 PM school time whenever new content is published.
Newsletters (CMS — Active Broadcast): Structured email newsletters created in Communications → Newsletters. Classroom subscribers automatically populate a teacher's Contact List.
Direct messaging limitation in CMS: Teachers cannot send direct one-off or bulk emails to parents from the standalone Edlio CMS. However, schools licensing Edlio Mass Communication can grant teachers access to send multi-channel messages (Email, Voice, and SMS Text) directly to their Classrooms and authorized Groups.
Overview: How subscriptions work
Email subscriptions allow parents, guardians, and students to stay informed automatically about teacher announcements, class homework, and website updates without requiring manual email composition from teachers.
When a visitor visits a teacher's personal page or class on the school website and clicks Subscribe, they register to receive an automated notification whenever new content is posted.
Key features of the subscription system
Automated 5:30 PM daily delivery: Subscriptions are processed once per day at 5:30 PM local school time. If a teacher makes multiple updates during the school day, subscribers receive a single consolidated email digest rather than multiple disruptive alerts. You can custom set the digest schedule configurable in Settings
Zero teacher sending effort: Teachers do not click "send" or draft subscription emails. Publishing a post or class assignment automatically triggers inclusion in that evening's digest.
Combined schoolwide digest: If a parent subscribes to multiple teachers, classes, or activity pages across the school, the system combines all daily updates into one organized email digest.
Automatic newsletter audience creation: Every parent who subscribes to a teacher's page or class is automatically synced into that teacher's Contact List under Communications → Newsletters, allowing the teacher to send formatted email newsletters without manually gathering email addresses.
