Teacher messaging architecture: CMS vs. Mass Communication
Edlio provides four distinct surfaces for teacher communication across two product platforms:
Personal Pages (CMS): Teacher profile, biography, syllabus, supply lists, and classroom post announcements.
Classes (CMS): Specific course homework assignments, due dates, class files, and syllabus outlines.
Subscriptions (CMS — Passive Daily Digest): Automated notification system. Teachers do not compose or dispatch subscription emails; the server generates a single consolidated daily digest at 5:30 PM school time whenever new content is published.
Newsletters (CMS — Active Broadcast): Structured email newsletters created in Communications → Newsletters. Classroom subscribers automatically populate a teacher's Contact List.
Direct messaging limitation in CMS: Teachers cannot send direct one-off or bulk emails to parents from the standalone Edlio CMS. However, schools licensing Edlio Mass Communication can grant teachers access to send multi-channel messages (Email, Voice, and SMS Text) directly to their Classrooms and authorized Groups.
How parents and students subscribe to a page or class
Subscribing to a teacher's personal page or class takes less than a minute and does not require creating an account or logging into the school website.
1. Navigate to the teacher's page or class
Families locate the teacher via the school's public Staff Directory, classroom navigation menu, or by clicking a direct link shared by the teacher (e.g. https://school.edlio.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=...).
2. Click the Subscribe button
On the teacher's profile card or class header, click the dark Subscribe button located next to the teacher's contact details.
3. Complete the subscription form
A registration modal opens with the title Subscribe to Personal Page or Subscribe to Class:
First & Last Name: Enter the parent, guardian, or student's full name.
Email Address: The email address where daily digests should be sent.
Role Selector ("I am a"): Select Parent / Guardian, Student, Staff, or Community Member.
Student's Name & Reason (Optional): Helpful information so the teacher can verify classroom relationships.
4. Confirmation and daily delivery
Click Subscribe. The system displays an on-screen confirmation, and the subscriber is immediately added to the daily automated digest queue. If the teacher publishes new assignments or announcements, an email digest is sent automatically at 5:30 PM school time.
