Create Data Lists

Learn how to create a new Data List in Edlio CMS manually or by importing structured datasets from a CSV spreadsheet.

📌 Feature Availability Notice — Enabled on a site-by-site basis: The Data Lists feature is an advanced structured data and directory management tool enabled on a site-by-site basis. If you do not see Page Management > Data Lists in your CMS admin navigation or the Data List option in your Add Page Block menu, reach out to Edlio Technical Support or your Client Success Manager (email [email protected]) to discuss turning this feature on for your school or district.

Start by accessing the Data Lists feature in your administrative dashboard. You can create a data list by defining unique column names and entering data manually or by uploading an existing CSV spreadsheet. Once saved, add the data list to pages to display the records on your website.

💡 Best-Practice Adoption Tips

  • Flexible Column Renaming: While establishing clear column headers (e.g. Program Name, Grade Level, Contact Email) in your spreadsheet is helpful, you can easily rename any column header directly in the dashboard later via Manage Columns without having to re-upload your CSV.

  • CSV Pre-Formatting: Save your spreadsheet in UTF-8 CSV format and ensure header cells contain concise, descriptive labels under 50 characters.

Navigate to the Data Lists Feature

To access Data Lists, expand the hamburger menu ($\equiv$) in the top navigation bar and select Page Management ➡️ Data Lists.

Add a New Data List

From the main Data Lists screen, click the primary New Data List button in the upper right.

Enter a clear, descriptive name for your data list (for example, 2026-2027 Community Scholarships) and click Add.

Create a Data List by Importing a CSV File

Quickly populate columns and records from an existing spreadsheet by uploading a CSV file.

CSV File Requirements:

  • Column headers must be unique within the file and 50 characters or less.

  • No completely empty columns.

  • Data cells must be 2,000 characters or less.

  • Maximum limits: up to 30 columns and 10,000 rows.

  • Maximum file size: 25 MB.

Step 1: Click the Upload CSV button.

ℹ️ Columns and records populated from a CSV can easily be edited, reordered, or expanded directly in the Data Lists feature after upload.

Step 2: Select the CSV file from your computer or drag and drop it directly into the upload zone.

Step 3: Click Upload to process the file structure.

Step 4: Review the file confirmation screen and click Continue Upload.

Step 5: Confirm that your columns and records populate correctly in the table view.

ℹ️ While the summary dashboard preview displays the first 4 columns, all columns in your dataset are fully preserved and viewable when embedded on your live website pages.

Create a Data List Manually

When starting with an empty dataset without a CSV, create a new list name as shown above. Then, configure your fields and add individual items following our comprehensive guide on Managing Columns and Records in Data Lists.
