Add content to Pages

A complete guide to adding and configuring all eleven page block types, layouts, and zones in the Edlio CMS page editor.

🧑‍🏫 Editing a teacher or staff Personal Page (About Me)? Personal Pages have a separate entry point: Site Management → User Management → [teacher] → Edit Personal Content → Edit Page — not the regular Pages list. Once you are in that editor, the + Add steps below work exactly the same, though Standard Users have fewer page block options.

Once you have created a page, you build it up by adding page blocks. Inside any layout zone, click + Add to open the Add Page Block modal and pick a block type. This guide covers all block types and how to use each one.

💡 Editor Mode vs. Preview: The + Add button only appears while actively editing a page inside the page editor. It does not appear on the main Page Management category list or in preview/live view. If you do not see the + Add button, ensure you have clicked into a specific page editor.

➕ Adding a block between existing blocks? Hover between any two page blocks and an ADD button appears — click it to insert a new block at that exact spot, no dragging required. This works in all zones (hero, main, side, and top single-column). You can still add a block at the bottom and drag it into position if you prefer.

The Page Block types

The Add Page Block modal offers eleven distinct options at the page level (within main, side, or top layout zones):

  1. Content — rich text, inline photos, video embeds, and HTML tables

  2. Photos — image gallery with carousel, stacked, or constrained display modes

  3. Files — downloadable documents and PDFs

  4. Supply Lists — classroom supply lists for parents via TeacherLists integration

  5. Buttons — prominent call-to-action buttons for registration, enrollment, or forms

  6. Links — reusable, category-based links and quick-link clusters

  7. News — targeted news feeds pulled from your site News collection

  8. Events — upcoming events feed pulled from your school calendar

  9. Staff — staff directory display showing faculty by department or category

  10. Staff Search — searchable search bar for visitors to find staff on this page

  11. Section Menu — navigation widget displaying all published pages within the current Section

Hero zone block selection: The Hero zone at the top of a page supports a specialized subset: Content, Photos, Section Menu, Buttons, and Links. Data-feed blocks (Files, Supply Lists, News, Events, Staff, and Staff Search) cannot be placed in the Hero header zone. See Hero layouts for details.

Content

content text box

The primary text-and-media container for your page. Used for paragraphs, custom headings, numbered lists, tables, and embedded videos from YouTube, Vimeo, or your Edlio video gallery.

Using Source code in a Content block

The Source code tool lets you paste or write custom HTML directly. For security and accessibility, the editor accepts HTML only, styled with inline CSS. External JavaScript, script tags, and standalone CSS stylesheets are not supported and are automatically stripped on save.

Photos

photo block settings

An image gallery block supporting single or multiple photos with captions and accessibility alt text. Display options (accessible via the block gear icon) include:

  • Rotate: Automatically cycles through images like a carousel.

  • Stacked: Displays images vertically one beneath another.

  • Constrained: Sizes photos neatly to fit the page column width.

  • Full: Stretches images across the full layout container width.

📺 Looking to change the video on your homepage? The video on your homepage is a self-serve feature managed in your video library — mark any uploaded video as "Featured". See Make a video featured.

Files

uploaded file list

upload options

Allows visitors to download documents, handbooks, forms, and permission slips. Drag and drop files to reorder them using the 6-dot handle, or click the three-dot kebab menu to rename or remove a file.

♿ PDF accessibility: Whenever possible, build content directly on an Edlio Page rather than uploading a raw PDF. When PDFs are required, ensure they pass accessibility standards before uploading. See PDF accessibility. Edlio's PDF Remediation and Accessible Documents add-on features streamline PDF accessibility for you- for more information, reach out to [email protected] or come to a Study Hall on Accessibility or Q&A by signing up at help.edlio.com/studyhall or via the Intercom launcher.

Supply Lists

Displays official grade or classroom supply lists powered by TeacherLists, giving parents one-click access to purchase required materials through major online retailers.

Buttons

Prominent call-to-action buttons for high-priority visitor tasks (e.g., "Enroll Now", "Staff Portal", "Pay Fees"). Each button has an independent label and destination URL.

Links

Displays categorized link lists. Unlike standalone Buttons blocks, Link topics created in Site Management > Links can be shared across multiple pages on your site. See Add link blocks.

News & Events blocks

  • News block: Embeds live announcements filtered by category (e.g. showcasing only Athletics news on the sports page). See Add news block.

  • Events block: Embeds upcoming events from your calendar filtered by group or department. See Add event blocks.

Staff & Staff Search blocks

While both blocks pull data from your website's Staff Directory, they serve two distinct display purposes:

  • Staff Block: Displays a visual roster or directory grid of faculty cards. You can filter the display by specific User Types, Departments, or Grades (for example, showing only the Math department faculty on the Math curriculum page). See Add staff block.

  • Staff Search Block: Places an interactive search bar directly on the page. Visitors can type a staff member's name, title, or department to dynamically search and filter staff members in real time without leaving that page.

Section Menu block

Automatically generates an accordion sub-menu of all published pages inside the current Section. Ideal for multi-page departments (such as Counseling or Athletics) placed in a side column.

Layout zones & the Top Column Zone

When adding blocks to multi-column page layouts (such as 2-column or 3-column layouts), you can utilize the Top Column Zone directly beneath your page header. This single-column full-width zone allows you to place an introductory Content block, alert banner, or full-width photo carousel spanning the entire page width before content splits into side-by-side columns below.

Saving and publishing your page

The bottom editor toolbar gives you two save options:

  • Save Draft (blue filled button): Saves all edits without updating the live website. Site visitors cannot see draft changes.

  • Publish (blue outlined button): Pushes your changes live immediately to your school website.

💡 Draft vs. Published Inheritance Tip: Blocks added to an unpublished page or section will inherit that parent section's visibility. If you click Publish on an individual page block but the page itself or its parent Section is marked "Unpublished", non-logged-in visitors will still see a 404 or cannot access the page until the parent page/section is published.
