Publish and unpublish pages

Updated over 2 months ago

There are times when you may want to temporarily hide certain pages from your school website. For example, you might be working on an upcoming event page or preparing content for the new school year. The unpublish feature allows you to hide pages from public view while keeping them accessible in your admin area for editing.

What Happens When You Unpublish a Page

When you unpublish a page:

  • The page becomes invisible to website visitors

  • Any existing links to that page will no longer work (visitors will see an error)

  • The page remains searchable and editable in your admin dashboard

  • You can republish the page at any time

Method 1: Unpublishing While Editing a Page

If you're currently editing the page you want to hide:

  1. Look for the Actions button in the top right corner of the editing screen

  2. Click the Actions button to open the dropdown menu

  3. Select Unpublish from the dropdown options

Identifying Unpublished Pages

Unpublished pages will display a disabled icon next to their name in the page list, making them easy to identify.

To Republish:

  1. Locate the unpublished page in your page list (look for the disabled icon)

  2. Click on the page tools menu

  3. Select Publish from the menu

Important Things to Remember

  • Broken Links: Unpublishing a page will break any links pointing to it from other pages, emails, or external websites. Make sure to update or remove these links before unpublishing.

  • Admin Search: Unpublished pages will still appear when you search for pages in your admin dashboard, so you can always find and edit them.

  • Temporary Solution: Unpublishing is ideal for temporary content management. If you need to permanently remove a page, consider deleting it instead.

This feature gives you flexible control over your website content, allowing you to prepare pages in advance and control exactly when they become visible to your school community.
