News & Alerts is the CMS feature for publishing news stories to your school's public website. News stories appear in the News block on your homepage and on any News listing pages you've added to your site. This article gives you the overview; for step-by-step flows see the linked articles below.
🧭 Not sure which feature you need?
News & Alerts (this feature) — stories on your website. Persistent, browseable, can be backdated, can be categorized.
Homepage Alert — a temporary popup on your homepage tied to a specific news story, for urgent or time-sensitive announcements.
Spotlight Messages — short callouts in a dedicated homepage zone (different placement than News).
Edlio App Newsfeed — a separate product surface. Posts to the Edlio mobile app, not the website. Has its own create flow.
What you can do with News & Alerts
Post news stories and announcements to your school website
Organize stories by category (e.g., Athletics, Academics, Events)
Promote a specific story to a temporary Homepage Alert popup
Cross-post stories to social media or Mass Communications channels
Schedule stories for future publish or set an expiration date
Display stories on category-specific pages or filter by tags
Who has access
Website Administrators have full access to all News & Alerts features and can manage stories across every category.
Teachers and Staff must be granted access by a Website Administrator. Access is scoped to specific news categories — for example, the Athletics Director might have access only to the Athletics category. This keeps the right content with the right authors. See Navigate to News & Alerts for what shows up after access is granted.
Getting started
Once you have access:
Navigate to News & Alerts from your admin dashboard
Manage existing stories (edit, archive, delete)
Optional: Set up a Homepage Alert to promote a story
Optional: Cross-post to Mass Communications (email/text/voice)
