Embed Third-Party Code

Updated this week

Embedded content allows you to display information from third-party websites directly on your school's webpage. This is commonly called "embed code" because you're inserting a small piece of another website into your own page.

You can embed many types of content including:

  • YouTube or Vimeo videos

  • Twitter/X posts

  • Facebook posts and videos

  • Google Calendar events

  • And many other interactive elements

Please Note: Third-party code embedded on a page will only affect that specific page. If you need to add a third-party script or code to all pages via the header, our support team can assist you with this request.

Important Accessibility Note

When you embed third-party content, your site's accessibility rating will include the ratings for all embedded content. Third-party providers are responsible for maintaining their own accessibility standards, which is outside of our platform's control.

Best Practice: Always include a link to the third party's accessibility statement near any embedded content. For example, when embedding Google Maps, include a link to "Google Maps and Accessibility."

Security Considerations

Some embed code, particularly scripts using JavaScript, may not be accepted due to security concerns. The platform will filter out potentially harmful code to keep your site secure.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Get the Embed Code

  1. Open the third-party website (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

  2. Find the specific content you want to embed

  3. Look for buttons labeled "embed," "share," or similar

  4. Copy the provided embed code

Note: If you can't find the embed option, check that site's help center for specific instructions.

Step 2: Navigate to Your Page

Go to the page on your school website where you want to add the embedded content.

Step 3: Add or Edit a Content Block

  • For new embedded content: Add a new Content block

  • For existing content: Click into an existing Content block

Tip: We recommend creating a dedicated Content block for each piece of embedded content, as this makes it easier to manage.

Step 4: Access Source Code

Click on the Source code icon to open the Source code editing window.

Step 5: Insert the Embed Code

For a new Content block:

  1. Remove the placeholder text: <div class="placeholder-tinymce-text">Enter your text here...</div>

  2. Paste your embed code in its place

For existing content:

  1. Find where you want the embedded content to appear in your text

  2. Paste the embed code at that location

Step 6: Save and Publish

  1. Click "Save" in the Source code window

  2. Publish your page to make the changes live

What to Expect

The embedded content may not display correctly in the editing interface. This is normal! Once you publish the page, the embedded content will appear properly on your public website for visitors to see.

Tips for Success

  • Test your embedded content on the public site after publishing

  • Keep embed codes organized by using separate Content blocks

  • Regularly check that embedded content is still working, as third-party sites sometimes change their embed methods

  • Consider the loading time impact of multiple embedded elements on a single page

By following these steps, you'll be able to enhance your school website with engaging content from trusted third-party sources while maintaining security and accessibility standards.
