News Blocks make it easy to showcase your school's latest news and updates directly on any page of your website. This feature automatically displays your news stories in a clean, organized format that keeps your community informed.
What are News Blocks?
News Blocks allow you to integrate a live news feed seamlessly into any page on your school website. When you add a News Block, it automatically pulls content from your news categories and displays it on the selected page.
How to Add a News Block to a Page
Follow these simple steps to add news to any page:
Step 1: Access Pages Navigate to the Pages section in your admin panel.
Step 2: Add a New Block Click the "Add" button to create a new page block.
Step 3: Select News Block Type In the Add Page Block modal that appears, select "News" from the available options.
Step 4: Choose Your News Category From the dropdown menu, select the news category you want to display on this page. Different categories might include general school news, sports updates, academic announcements, or any custom categories you've created.
Step 5: Save Your Selection Click "Save" to add the News Block to your page.
Step 6: Save the Page After the news stories automatically populate on your page, remember to save the entire page to make your changes live.
Customizing Your News Display
Main Content Area News Blocks can be added to the main content section of your page for prominent display of important updates.
Sidebar Placement You can also add News Blocks to the side section of your page for a more compact news display that doesn't interfere with your main content.
Controlling Article Count The number of news articles that appear in your News Block is controlled by the "Number of Homepage Items" setting found in Settings > News for each specific news category. Adjust this number to show more or fewer articles as needed for your page layout.
Important Security Considerations
Password Protected Content If you select a news category that's located in a password-protected area of your website, you'll see a warning message. This is important to understand: News and Events added through News Blocks are visible to all site visitors, even if the original news category is password protected.
Best Practice If you're adding News Blocks to password-protected pages, make sure the news content itself is appropriate for public viewing, or ensure your entire page remains password protected to control access.
Visual Results
Once you've added a News Block, your page will automatically display:
Article headlines
Brief excerpts or full articles (depending on your settings)
The News Block updates automatically whenever you publish new articles in the selected category, keeping your pages fresh and current without manual updates.
