Manage social media icons and feeds

How to manage social media on your Edlio site: which changes are self-serve via Links, which require a support ticket, and how to tell the difference.

Social media on your Edlio site

There are three ways social media shows up on a typical Edlio site, and how you change each one is different:

  • Social media icons set up as Links (top bar, footer, or homepage link block) — you can edit, add, or remove these yourself.

  • Social media icons hard-coded in your site design — these are part of your site's theme; changes require a support ticket.

  • Social media feeds (live Instagram or Facebook embeds that auto-update) — these are always hard-coded; changes require a support ticket.

If you're not sure which type you have, the quickest way to tell is to try editing it in the Links area (see below). If you don't see it listed, it's hard-coded.

Social media icons as Links (self-serve)

If your social media icons are managed as Links, you can update them yourself in the CMS:

  1. Sign into your CMS admin.

  2. Go to Links in the dashboard or sidebar.

  3. Find the link for the social media platform you want to update (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, etc.).

  4. Click the link to edit the URL, change the icon, or unpublish it.

For step-by-step instructions, see:

Social media icons hard-coded in your site design

Some Edlio site designs include social media icons that are part of the site theme — they're not editable from the Links area because they were built into the design when your site was launched. Common examples:

  • A social media bar in the header that follows a specific layout matching your branding

  • Icons inside a custom-designed footer

  • Icons that appear on every page (not just the homepage) and aren't listed in your Links

If you've checked Links (see the section above) and you don't see the icon you want to update, it's hard-coded. You'll need to open a support ticket — see the banner below for what to include.

Social media feeds (Instagram, Facebook)

All social media feeds on Edlio sites are hard-coded. A feed is the live, auto-updating embed that pulls posts directly from your Instagram or Facebook account. Because feeds connect to third-party APIs and authenticate against your social account, they're configured by Edlio's support team — there isn't a self-serve UI for them.

You'll need to open a support ticket if:

  • Your Instagram or Facebook feed isn't loading or has stopped updating

  • You want to add a new feed (or remove one)

  • You want to point an existing feed to a different social account

  • You've changed your social media handle and the feed is broken

⚠️ Don't see your social media topic above, or not sure if your icons are self-serve?

Open a support ticket through Eddy, Edlio's AI support assistant. In your ticket, include:

  • Your school or district name and website URL

  • Which icon, widget, or feed you want changed (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)

  • What change you need (update URL, replace icon, remove platform, add a new feed, etc.)

  • The new URL or handle (if applicable)

  • Where on your site the icon or feed appears (header, footer, homepage, etc.)

For the full Eddy walkthrough, see How to submit a support ticket via Eddy.

X (formerly Twitter)

If your site still shows the old Twitter bird icon, see Update to Twitter's icon in Links. If the bird icon is part of a hard-coded social bar (not editable in Links), open a ticket as described above.

Settings → Social Media (a different feature)

You may notice a Settings → Social Media area in your CMS admin. This is a separate feature — it's how you connect your school's Facebook, Instagram, or X accounts so you can push News stories to those platforms when you publish them. It is not related to the social media icons, widgets, or feeds that appear on your homepage, header, or footer.

If you want to push News posts to your school's social accounts, see Post News to Social Media.

If you want to change the icons or feeds on your site itself, follow the sections above instead.
