Change the order of drop-down items and create sub-items

Managing your school website's navigation menu is simple with our drag-and-drop tools. This guide will show you how to reorder menu items and create organized sub-menus for better site navigation.

Reordering Navigation Menu Items

You can easily change the order of items in your website's drop-down navigation menu.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Locate the item you want to move in your navigation menu list

  2. Find the six dots icon (⋮⋮) located beside each menu item

  3. Click and hold the six dots icon

  4. Drag the item up or down to your desired position in the menu

  5. Release when the item is in the correct location

  6. Click the Save button to make your changes live on the website

Important: Remember to save your changes! Your reordered menu won't appear on your live website until you click the Save button.

Creating Sub-Menu Items

Sub-menu items appear indented under main navigation items, helping organize related pages and making your site easier to navigate.

How to Create a Sub-Menu:

  1. Select the menu item you want to convert into a sub-item

  2. Click on the action menu for that item

  3. Choose "Make sub item" from the dropdown options

  4. The item will now appear indented under its parent menu item

  5. Click Save to publish these changes to your live website

Converting Sub-Items Back to Main Items:

If you need to move a sub-item back to the main navigation level:

  1. Select the sub-item you want to change

  2. Click on the action menu

  3. Choose "Make parent item"

  4. The item will move back to the main navigation level

  5. Click Save to update your live website

Tips for Better Navigation Organization

  • Group related pages together using sub-items (example: put "Faculty Directory," "Staff Resources," and "Department Info" under a main "Staff" section)

  • Keep main navigation items limited to 5-7 items for easier browsing

  • Use clear, descriptive names for menu items so visitors know what to expect

  • Test your navigation by visiting your live website after making changes
