User Authentication with an Organizational Unit

Updated over 3 months ago

Overview

If your school or district uses Google SSO, Microsoft SSO, or LDAP authentication, you can restrict access to the Edlio Content Management System (CMS) so that only staff members can log in. This article explains how to set this up.

What is the Issue?

By default, anyone with an account on your school's domain can log into your Edlio CMS. This means students or other non-staff users might have access to edit your website content.

How to Restrict Access

Edlio can configure your system to only allow users from a specific Organizational Unit (OU) to access the CMS. Here's how:

Step 1: Set Up an Organizational Unit

In your SSO service (Google, Microsoft, or LDAP), create or identify an Organizational Unit specifically for staff members who should have CMS access.

Step 2: Contact Edlio Support

Reach out to Edlio's technical support team and provide them with:

  • The name of your staff Organizational Unit

  • Your school/district name

  • Your website URL

Step 3: Verification

Edlio will configure your CMS to only allow users from the specified OU to log in.

Important Notes

  • Only one Organizational Unit can be used for CMS access control

  • All users who need CMS access must be placed in this same OU

  • This setting applies to all authentication methods using your domain's SSO
