Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring two different forms of identification when you log in. This guide will walk you through setting up and using 2FA with our system.
What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA), sometimes called multi-factor authentication (MFA), enhances your account security by requiring:
Something you know (your password)
Something you have (a temporary code from an authenticator app)
This means that even if someone discovers your password, they still can't access your account without the second factor.
Recommended Authenticator Apps
Download one of these apps from your device's app store:
Authy
Microsoft Authenticator
Google Authenticator
Duo Mobile App
How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Go to your User Profile page
Select "Enable two-factor authentication" from the dropdown menu
Scan the QR code with your chosen authenticator app
If you can't scan the code (for example, if you're viewing this page on your phone), tap "Can't scan the QR code?" for manual setup instructions
Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app
Tap "Register two-factor authentication"
You've now successfully enabled 2FA! You'll need to provide both your password and a code from your authenticator app each time you sign in.
Signing In With Two-Factor Authentication
Enter your username and password as usual
Tap "Sign In"
When prompted, enter the current code from your authenticator app
Tap "Verify"
You're now securely signed in!
Important Tips
Always have your authenticator app available when signing in
Authenticator codes typically refresh every 30 seconds
If you get a new phone, make sure to transfer your authenticator app before disposing of your old device
For additional security, consider backing up your authenticator app or recovery codes
