Enable and sign in with two-factor authentication

Updated over a week ago

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring two different forms of identification when you log in. This guide will walk you through setting up and using 2FA with our system.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA), sometimes called multi-factor authentication (MFA), enhances your account security by requiring:

  1. Something you know (your password)

  2. Something you have (a temporary code from an authenticator app)

This means that even if someone discovers your password, they still can't access your account without the second factor.

Recommended Authenticator Apps

Download one of these apps from your device's app store:

  • Authy

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Google Authenticator

  • Duo Mobile App

How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Go to your User Profile page

  2. Select "Enable two-factor authentication" from the dropdown menu

  3. Scan the QR code with your chosen authenticator app

    1. If you can't scan the code (for example, if you're viewing this page on your phone), tap "Can't scan the QR code?" for manual setup instructions

  4. Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app

  5. Tap "Register two-factor authentication"

  • If you get a new phone, make sure to transfer your authenticator app before disposing of your old device

  • For additional security, consider backing up your authenticator app or recovery codes
