How to Rename a Category

Sometimes you may need to update the name of a category to better organize your website content or reflect changes in your school's structure. Follow these simple steps to rename any category in your content management system.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access Your Pages

Start by navigating to the Pages section of your content management platform. This is where all your website categories and pages are organized.

Step 2: Open the Category

Look for the category you want to rename and click directly on the category name. This will open the category and display its contents.

Step 3: Enter Edit Mode

Once the category is open, look for a small pencil icon (✏️) located near the category name. Click on this pencil icon to activate the editing feature.

💡

On the Pages root list, the pencil icon only appears when you hover over or select a category row. On the section detail header, the pencil is always visible next to the section name. If you don't see the pencil icon at first, hover over the row.

A text box will appear with the current category name highlighted. Simply type your new category name in this text box, replacing the existing text.

To save your new category name, you have two options:

  • Press the Return (Enter) key on your keyboard, or

  • Click your mouse anywhere on the white space outside the text box

Your category will now display with its new name throughout your website.

Tips for Success

  • Choose clear, descriptive names that help visitors understand what content they'll find in each category

  • Keep names concise to ensure they display properly in your website's navigation menu

  • Use consistent naming conventions across similar categories for a professional appearance
