Broadcasting your school's news stories to social media is an effective way to keep your community informed about important events, achievements, and announcements. With Edlio's Broadcasts feature, you can share your content across multiple social media platforms simultaneously, saving time while maximizing your reach.
Before You Start
Your organization's social media accounts must be connected to your Edlio platform before you can use the Broadcasts feature. If you haven't already done this, learn how to connect your Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts in our social media setup guide.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Create or Select Your News Story
Start by adding a news story to your website and tap Save. This could be an announcement about upcoming events, photos from recent school activities, academic achievements, or any other news you want to share with your community.
2. Access the Broadcast Feature
To post an existing news story to social media:
Navigate to your news list
Hover over the story you want to share

3. Choose Your Social Media Channels
On the next screen:
Tap Broadcasts
Select which social media channels you want to post to (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
Tap Continue to proceed
You'll see the news broadcast button and new broadcast menu options at this stage.
4. Customize Your Broadcast Message
The broadcast social media menu will display several automatically populated fields that you can customize:
Message Content:
Your news story's headline and short summary will automatically appear
Edit this text as needed to optimize it for social media (consider character limits and hashtags)
Featured Image:
The featured photo from your news story will automatically carry over
You can delete this image or upload a different one specifically for your social media post
Scheduling:
If your news story is scheduled for future publication, the social media post will automatically be scheduled for the same date and time
You can modify the delivery date and time independently if needed
5. Send Your Broadcast
Choose when to share your content:
Send now: Your post will immediately go live on selected social media channels
Schedule for later: Use the schedule broadcast menu to select a specific date and time for posting
Tips for Effective Social Media Broadcasting
Keep your audience in mind: Tailor your message for parents, students, and community members who follow your social accounts
Use engaging visuals: High-quality photos of school events, student achievements, and campus activities perform well on social media
Time your posts strategically: Consider when your audience is most active on social media
Preview before posting: Review your message and image to ensure they display correctly across different platforms
What Happens After Broadcasting
Once you send your broadcast, your content will appear on the selected social media channels according to your chosen timing. The original news story will remain on your school website, while the social media posts will help drive traffic back to your site and increase community engagement.
Remember that broadcasting allows you to maintain consistent messaging across all your communication channels while reaching different segments of your school community where they're most active online.
