Adding videos to your news stories helps engage your school community and makes announcements more dynamic. This guide will walk you through the simple process of including videos in your news content.
Who Can Add Videos
Only administrators and users who have been given access to the news feature can add videos to news stories.
Supported Video and Audio Formats
Before uploading, make sure your media files are in supported formats:
Video formats:
MP4, M4V, MOV (encoded with H.263 or H.264)
AVI (encoded with DivX/Xvid)
Audio formats:
WAV, MP3, M4A
Note: AVI videos with other codecs (like Camtasia TSCC) and WMV, WMA, and ASF files are no longer supported.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Create Your News Story
Start by creating a news story using the Content option in your Edlio dashboard.
Step 2: Select Your Video
In your news story editor, click the "Select Video" button
A pop-up menu will appear showing all available videos
Click on the title of the video you want to add to your story
Step 3: Choose Your Video Source
Videos are organized into helpful groups:
School Videos - Videos uploaded by your school
Personal Videos - Videos you've uploaded personally
Sections - Videos found in different areas of your Pages feature
All videos that have been uploaded or embedded through Edlio's Videos feature will appear in this selection menu.
Step 4: Choose Video Placement
Decide where you want the video to appear in your news story:
Above the content - Video displays at the top
Below the content - Video displays at the bottom
What Displays with Your Video
When your video is published, readers will see:
The video player
Video title
Video description
Transcript (when available)
Important note about transcripts: Transcripts are only available for video files that have been directly uploaded to Edlio's Videos feature. Videos embedded from third-party services like YouTube or Vimeo will only include the accessibility options provided by those platforms.
Alternative Method
You can also embed videos directly using the text editor's embed function, though the Select Video method described above is typically easier for most users.
